"RACE TO THE RAPIDS" CANOE RACE
Canoes 15 - 20' with 32 - 40" beam/width
Must have one spare paddle/canoe, properly affixed PRD's for each paddler, fixed footwear* worn by each paddler (no crocs or sandals)
Race is to the Rapids and back - about 10 km. total distance; expected faster canoes will do this in less than 1.5 hours
Entry fee: $20/canoe
Female race 3 on Saturday and male 3 on Sunday; no age limits and no mixed category
Depending on how many entrants we may have to have heats with probably a "paddle off" for the 3 faster canoes in each heat. Paddle off, if necessary, will be a much shorter event - we are thinking up to the bridge, turn a column, and back.
Prizes for male and female will be to split the respective entry fees collected. 1st 3/6th (1/2) of entry fees, 2nd 2/6th (1/3) of fees, 3rd 1/6.
* so that footwear stays on to avoid sharp object foot injury in shallow water start/finish area
